Teaching English in Thailand in 2019. A Short Guide.

Image
Thailand is a wonderful country with warm, friendly people and an inviting culture.  By teaching here you will have time to soak up the culture and see the beautiful landscapes the country has to offer. To travel within the country is very easy and also very cheap. The cost of living is very affordable and there are many options available to fit any lifestyle. However, Thailand is not the number one country for English teaching in Asia because the salaries are not that high. Countries like Korea and China have much higher salaries and lures the bulk of English teachers. If your intention is to save up some money then it is still possible to do it in Thailand but it will just take a lot longer. English teaching jobs are very much high in demand and every year there is room for more. With regard to visas, there have been several changes in the last couple of years. Before you make any decision to live or teach here, first go on to the website of the Thai Embassy in ...

Thai Fruit Guide. Where to find. How to eat. How to taste.

Image
Thailand is definitely the land of plentiful for fruit lovers. Gorgeous tropical fruit greets you on almost every corner. The country's fertile planes and hot tropical climate means that pretty much anything grows here. Not only is the fruit cheap but it is also a healthier option than the normal staples of street food. Snacking on fruit will keep you hydrated whilst exploring temples and other tourists sights in the sweltering heat of Bangkok. Fruit also plays an important role in Thai cuisine and the famous Somtum ( papaya salad) is well known all over the world. My favourites in colour, texture and taste are the rambutan, mangosteen and dragon fruit.  Sensual, Seductive, tantalising are all words that come to mind if I have to describe them. To find these exquisitely tasting fruits you just need to pay a visit to the nearest market anywhere in Thailand where you will see them on colourful displays. Be adventurous and try the weird looking one...

Camping under the Stars: Erawan National Park

Image
If you are planning a trip to Thailand or are already here and want to experience a night or two sleeping under the stars this might just be the right adventure for you. Thailand has many National Parks and certainly one of the most beautiful is Erawan National Park. On this Camping adventure, you will experience the tranquillity of nature, hiking the waterfalls and just general relaxation. The waterfalls are the main attraction of course and you can hike up to the seventh level if you are reasonably fit. On the way up, there are a few natural pools where you can take a dip in refreshingly cool water. The river is next to the campsite and adds to the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. There are also fish in the pools and if you take a dip they will nibble on your legs but not to be feared. Just think of it as the natural version of a foot spa where you get nibbled for free 😃. Erawan National Park is about 3  hours from Bangkok and could be busy during weekends and hol...

How to travel with only the bare essentials.

Image
How much do you really need to pack for a week at the beach?   Do you need more than a swimsuit, dress, flip-flops, book and some sunscreen for a week at the beach?  That's a question that I have wondered about many times.  It is very tempting to overpack and have this doomsday approach where you fill your bag with things that you think you might need just to regret it in the end. Well, to be honest, my packing habits are still a work in progress, to say the least, but I feel that I have come a long way since my first overpacked backpack trip.  Moreover, my journey toward becoming a minimalist traveller has taken on a much deeper meaning. Once you are able to "do without" and realise that you need way less than you think your life is filled with freedom.    But it takes time and some lifestyle changes to actually achieve that minimalist mindset. Minimalist travel starts with a Mindset - It's a process over time to To be a ...

A Fragrant Affair : Bangkok Flower Market

Image
When you set foot in the area of Pak Khlong Talat you enter a fragrant world of exquisite flowers and vibrant colours.   You can sense the history and community here as most of these shops are family businesses passed down from generations.  It is fascinating to see how the shopkeepers and flower sellers put together their arrangements and displays to sell. Everybody is busy taking care of their delicate flowers, some are on their phones taking orders and others are having their daily conversation with fellow vendors. That is a glimpse of life in the Flower market. The Flower Market portrays the softer, romantic side of  Bangkok and is a feast for the eyes and senses. Beautiful Roses The meaning of flowers in Thai Culture Flowers have great significance in Thailand and is often given as offerings, lucky charms and decorations. You can always spot flower garlands in temples, hanging from taxi rear view mirrors and at shrines. Cars always pull up a...

Kho Samui Island - Wild and Free - Our first visit.

Image
I had been to some other amazing islands before but this was my first trip to Kho Samui.  Our plan was to explore the island by motorbike, take it day by day and also enjoy our much-needed vacation time.  But as the week developed and the beautiful island revealed herself to us. We discovered that Kho Samui has something to offer for every budget and a lot of free fun things to do. As first timers to Kho Samui, I'd say we did a lot, saw a lot and loved it there. The Island is famous for its Palm-fringed beaches. Past and Present: Kho Samui is on the Gulf of Thailand about 35 km north of Surat Thani Town. The central part of the Island is mostly mountainous jungle and the largest mountain is called Khao Pom.  The lowlands are connected by Route 4169 which is 51 km long and encircling the Island. The Island was inhabited 15 centuries ago by fisherman from the Maly Peninsula and China. It appears on Chinese Maps dating back to 1687. Th...
